Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid Training

Wednesday, December 11, 2024 (10:00 AM - 4:30 PM) (EST)

Description

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack — we’d start CPR or call 9-1-1. Become a certified Mental Health First Aider and be able to respond to someone having a panic attack or showing signs of alcohol use disorder.

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to assist and support others who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.

This evidence-based, early-intervention course is administered by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and facilitated by trained instructors from the Ferd & Gladys Alpert Jewish Family Services of Palm Beach County.  Participants will be guided through community-specific scenarios, activities and videos to teach the skills needed to recognize and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges as well as how to provide initial support until they are connected with appropriate professional help.  This course is a great fit for program staff who work in people-facing roles, providing needed services to clients in vulnerable populations.

This is an In-Person - Blended Curriculum.  Students complete a 2-hour, self-paced online pre-course, and participate in a 5.5-hour, instructor-led training.  This class is limited to 30 participants so register soon!
