This is PART 1 of a three-part series. If a nonprofit organization has a board representative at each session, their organization will receive a certificate of achievement for completing the course.

Each session and participant must register separately.

This is an IN-PERSON workshop offered FREE of charge thanks to the generous support of the Junior League of Boca Raton.

This first session will cover Board Basics: Governance, Roles & Policies

Effective nonprofit boards don't happen; they are built with intention, clarity, and commitment. This three-part board training series gives nonprofit board and staff leaders the knowledge and tools they need to govern with confidence and lead with purpose. Whether you are a seasoned executive director, a new board chair, or someone considering your first board seat, this series will help you show up more prepared, more engaged, and more effective in one of the most important volunteer roles in your community.

In Board Basics: Governance, Roles & Policies, participants explore the legal and structural foundation of nonprofit governance from bylaws and financial oversight to the three duties of board service. The session covers the distinction between governance and management and how to avoid conflicts of interest.

Goal: To provide an overview of best practices in board governance and structure.

Learning Outcomes:

- Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of board members

- Governance structures and duties

- Policies and procedures needed for effective board leadership

October 9 - Session 3: Building the Most Effective Boards

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Vicki Pugh is a powerhouse in the world of philanthropy and nonprofit leadership. Through a dynamic fundraising career, she has led teams that have raised millions and millions of dollars for mission-driven organizations in Florida and New York City — including the New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall, Ballet Florida, Palm Beach Atlantic University, YMCA, and the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

Vicki is known not only for raising funds but also for leading organizations and leveraging strong philanthropic partnerships. With expertise in board development, strategic planning, major gifts, capital campaigns, and staffing alignment, she brings exceptional insight and energy to every collaboration.
