Understanding Cybersecurity Insurance and How to Choose the Right Coverage

Not all cyber insurance is created equal! Join this session to learn about real-world situations and what type of cyber insurance is right for your organization.

This workshop will walk through the many different coverages available in a cyber insurance policy and discuss the practical implications of each. We'll start with the coverage types, what controls you have in place to prevent an inside, and then go through example claims your nonprofit or business could encounter.

This workshop will help you confidently ask a broker the right questions when it is time to buy or renew cyber insurance.

Some examples that may be discussed:

  • Ransomware
  • Phishing / Wire Transfer
  • Business Email Compromise (BEC)
  • Multimedia Liability

The facilitators will outline what a cyber insurance policy should or will cover and what a claim would provide under different circumstances.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Alyson Laderman, JD, AIGP is an award-winning attorney, executive, and change-maker at the intersection of cybersecurity, business, and law. She is the Co-Founder, CEO, and Executive Director of Cyber Mettle Inc., a 501(c)(3) dedicated to cybersecurity workforce development and community cyber resilience, and co-host of The Cyber Mettle Podcast She is also the founder and managing partner of Alyson Laderman Law, PLLC and litigation counsel at Rywant, Alvarez, Jones, Russo & Guyton, P.A. Previously, she served as the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Legal Officer of a cybersecurity certification company.

Recognized as a Florida Legal Elite, a Super Lawyer, and an AV-rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell since 2009, Alyson has decades of experience handling complex legal, insurance, technology, and business matters. She is a published author, speaker, and a frequent voice on topics such as cyber resilience, AI governance, certification development, litigation prevention, risk management, and workforce transformation.

Dustin Bolander started off his career in cybersecurity and IT and pivoted to insurance during the massing rise of ransomware and other attacks. He focuses on small and mid-size businesses, helping them to build a solid cybersecurity foundation which includes insurance for when, not if, a breach inevitably happens.
